Cardboard Gramophone

Using cardboard and tape you can create a speaker for your phone that doesn’t use extra electricity. Passive speakers work by directing the sound in a single direction – towards you.

"I’ve always loved the aesthetic of old gramophones and finally sat down and made one. It will boost the volume of your music only a little bit, but it sure looks cool!" says Instructables user Nodel.

Nodel's design has won First Prize in the Cardboard Speed Challenge. Instructions to make the gramophone are available here.

Alternatively, the video below shows how to turn an old brass horn, found at a flea market, into an acoustic phone amplifier.
