What it’s like at a Knitting and Stitching Retreat

The camaraderie at a Knitting and Stitching Retreat in Devon last weekend was reminiscent of the Great British Sewing Bee, without the competitiveness. Participants brought their own projects to work on, which included up-cycling an old shirt into dungarees for a toddler, making a patchwork jacket and altering existing garments to fit after weight loss.

The retreat took place in a lovely barn conversion with delicious food and lots of laughter. Some people were so keen, they set up their sewing machines after dinner on Friday night while the rest of us relaxed on comfy sofas, drinking wine.

Over the next two days our host went round helping everyone and participants shared tips and taught each other. Everyone left on Monday with a finished garment or an almost finished project and the confidence to do the last steps.

The retreat was organised by Go Deer. Their next retreat, in February was booked up by people who want to go again, so they may put on another one in March. They also have one room left at their Wool Week in November with lessons in spinning, weaving, dyeing and felting.
