Raspberry Pi and CoderDojo merge to bring digital making to more kids!

Two educational charities join forces to help teach more people how to code as the Raspberry Pi Foundation and CoderDojo Foundation merge
The Raspberry Pi Foundation’s primary mission is to bring computer science and low-cost computing solutions to children. It’s why you see all the free resources on the Raspberry Pi website, free teacher training provided by the Foundation, and even The MagPi is provided for free as a PDF.
To help in this mission, the Raspberry Pi has teamed up with CoderDojo. CoderDojos are coding clubs for kids aged seven to 17, poviding a safe, social space for young people to learn and share programming skills.
As the goals of CoderDojo and Raspberry Pi align so well, it only made sense for the two to come together and do it better. They join CodeClub as part of the greater network of clubs and events that provide coding education to kids around the world.
Global effort
“Raspberry Pi and CoderDojo have each accomplished amazing things over the last six years.” Philip Colligan, CEO of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, said in the announcement blog.
"Now, we see an opportunity to do even more by joining forces. Bringing together Raspberry Pi, Code Club, and CoderDojo will create the largest global effort to get young people involved in computing and digital making. We have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to quadruple the number of CoderDojos worldwide, to 5,000, by the end of 2020.”
Look out for more coverage of CoderDojo in future issues of The MagPi!
Russell runs Raspberry Pi Press, which includes The MagPi, Hello World, HackSpace magazine, and book projects. He’s a massive sci-fi bore.
